Sodwana Bay, Sodwana Bay National Park

   South Africa  Mozambique Channel
Boat entry, rough launches, lots of charters to choose from. Always early morning starts
Selection of reefs: 2 mile, 5 mile, 7 mile and 9 mile - these are the distances from shore (boat ride).
Varying depths, lots of variety of reefs, amazing marine life.
Viz can be an issue as the current and swell can pick up considerably with changing winds etc., but always a challenge and lots of fun. Not for the faint-hearted.

S. Miguel Azores

   Portugal  Atlantic (European coastal)
By Plane is 2 hours from Lisbon to arrive at S.Miguel airport. Here you can find a few dive schools to whom you can arrange a dive trip. At S.miguel Island you can find many dive sites where you can take great pictures. This one was taken above a wreck called "Dori". Other dive sites you can find, with a little lick, some Mantas and sharks near by.

Sandy beach, Oahu

   United States  Pacific
The cliffs off halona blow hole go from cliff to 15 feet to 40 feet to 100 feet. Approximately cliff to 100 feet within 200 feet from shore. Hard to get in and out if any swell is apparent. I saw a Manta ray last time I dove there.

Roseau Dominica dive site Pointe Guignard

   Dominica  Gulf Of Mexico
The diving in Dominica is fantastic, once you finally make it to the island. Dive Dominica was great. The dive masters are very familuar with the different dive sites. This site, Pointe Guignard was an easy dive. I was swimming along taking photos of many marine creatures when I spotted an open white sandy area at about 55 feet depth and something swimming in circles on the sand. As I approached, I saw that it was 2 critters swimming around each other. I slowly approached and descended to the bottom and laid flat on my belly on the sand. I inched closer and closer until I was about 4 feet from the fish, 2 flying gurnards. They were oblivious to my approach. I was able to get several photos and was trying to move closer when some other divers moved in and the fish abruptly swam away.

Crescent Bay, Laguna Beach, CA

   United States  Pacific
I can't really say much about this location for I have only dove here once. I can say, however, that you really need to be physically fit and have absolutely no problem with having to suit up at the top of the hill (which is where you park you car) and walk down (with all your gear on) either the paved service road (which is really long and steep), or the stairs that are directly next to the service road (which are the same steepness and length as the service road) to reach the beach. This is really the only way to access the beach by foot. At the end of the service road/stairs, there are well kept mens/womens bathrooms and external showers (one for your whole body, and two for your feet). The showers are quite convenient because you can rinse off all the sand you picked up from getting out of the water and you can give a light rinse to your gear. I give it 4/5 stars. Would be 5/5 if there were an escalator :) On a good day, the viz would be about 20 feet. However, when a storm is on the way, expect 60+!

Port Hardy British Columbia

   Canada  Pacific
Some of the best diving in the world according to Jacques Cousteau and I must agree. Browning pass is like a wall of color and life is everywhere. This dive site if you can handle the cold water is better than any warm water diving I have seen. Bring your drysuit.

Close Encounters

   Fiji  Pacific
Our newest dive site only discovered in early 2008, this site has turned out to be another Kadavu site where manta rays can be seen regularly.

Even without these magnificent creatures, the reef itself is outstanding in its quality and diversity of fish life.

If you see mantas as well, this dive will always rank amongst the best you will ever do.
