The Find File form has an almost identical look and feel to the file
search utility built in to the Windows operating system (see Start
menu Find command and select Files Or Folders).
However, our version has several enhancements built in which are especially
useful for working with image files:
- You can see the actual image previewed (of course!).
- You can save searches and add new searches to them; an ideal way to cull
duplicate files across multiple drives.
- Find File has the ability to narrow criteria by selecting from a list such
options as contains.
- When trying to free hard disk space it is useful to delete files rather
than send them to the recycle bin. With this form you have both options!
To instigate a search, enter the name of the file in the Text box and press
the Search command button. During a search pressing this button again will
cancel the find file operation. You can also press your enter key to run the
same action.
During a search the status bar at the bottom of the form will change to
reflect the directory being searched.
When a search is completed you will see a list of files meeting your
criteria. This list includes any file type, not just image files. Image files
are easily distinguished by having an icon to the left of the filename. You can
click on the file to see a preview at the top left of the form.
The Find File form has three tabs: Search, Delete, and Advanced
Search Tab
This tab is used to set search parameters.
- File Name:
Select a type from the list to narrow your search criteria.
Options are "contains"; "begins with"; "ends
with"; "is exactly like"
- Text:
Enter text to search on. You can use wildcards to narrow a
search.
- Drive:
Select a drive from the list. You may also type in a directory
to limit the search if you wish.
Delete Tab
Use this tab when you want to delete a file from a search. Press delete to
remove the file completely or press recycle to send the file to the recycle bin
- Delete:
Select a file from a search and press delete to remove the
file completely.
- Recycle:
Press recycle to send the file to the recycle bin (local
drives only).
Advanced Tab
This tab contains further advanced search options.
- Keep Search:
Tick to keep present search results for another search.
This allows you to search multiple drives.
