message  Dear Lill,
thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest smile

You've requested a critique of your photo. How it works :
I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones
( if there are any ). My critique will be like 2-3 posts in total, please wait with any answers untill you see the note "photo critic completed" - thank you.
As we photo critics do this job as volunteers, a "thank you" is always appreciated ( no "thanks" = no more critiques ).

Important : The new "photo critique" feature here at UWP is meant to give a helping hand with an analytic review & to suggest solutions.
The objective is to see you here as winner one day smile

But also, this service is not a uw photography school. My objective is to give you an idea how a contest judge would see & judge your photo.
For the basics ( just in case ), a uw photography online course is available here at UWP.

And here we go !

First impression
Like in "Our blue planet" / deep sea creatures" - incredible great critter !!

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 )
Exposure : 5, Colours: 5, Sparpness: 4, DOF ( depht of field ) : 4, Contrast : 5

Suggestions :
Easy to talk about, but difficult to take a photo like this ;-) Light measuring to the lightest part of the "subject" ( here : there hyperid ) could bring a slight improvement.

Composition
Generally ok...it's more or less a question of taste....

Suggestions :
I think, it would look even better in an 3/4 ration instead of 2/3. This would eleminate the unnessessary "dead areas" on top and bottom of the photo.

message  Subject
Absolutly cool "model". Very interesting....almost "spacy" to say so ;-)

Suggestions :
Good, you've explained the subject in your description...it helps us all to understand it much better !

Epilogue
Impressive start you've made here ! Well deserved "shortlisting"....not many photos of this kind in the contest....so it has some "potential" ;-) Keep on the good work !

All the best,

Rico ( UWP Photo Critic )
