message Thanks Susan, this is one of my favorites, and does speak volumes. The name, his expression, his shadow in the dugout. The great contrast between the red name/ yellow top, and the "moment" of the shot was lost once I downloaded it because it turned out pretty dull on the website.
I don't know if he owned the bird or just found it, but he was actually hugging it before he showed it to us. Of course most people on the dive boat thought it was disgusting, but they don't realize that these kids grow up tough and owning nothing, so whatever they have, mean a lot to them.

message Ben, if he was hugging it, he was probably taken aback just by the death of the animal. I can't tell what kind of bird it is from this shot cuz its too small, but you should definitely enter it in a National geo contest. ..or one of the other contests

message Hi Susan, it's in the Kingfisher family. I just looked on Google, and the closest is the Tree Kingfisher. I think in Australia they're called Kookaburra. Thanks for the compliment wink
