Hi Suzan, I was wondering what you think of this combo. I am looking to get into supermacro and this was the route I was thinking of taking. Is the +10 much harder to work with than the +5. Nice shot by the way. | Tony Cherbas 10793 point member

Hi Tony, Well I just got the 10x, and sometimes I wished I'd gotten the 5x so I could have a little play around room... I had a 3x wet diopter- but you never knew if you had it on straight so half the images would be slightly bent out of focus. I definitely recommend getting it, because honestly there is a world out there that you have just never seen with your eyes. I actually shot one of these guys and it had eggs. I thought it was a juvenile- wrong.. its a whole 'nother subculture- practically invisible to the eye. I get so excited because I never know what I will find. Its just a major issue with the extreme current to land the focus. So I find myself praying for flat seas and no boats in the channel. Now I've had the 10x for about 6 months, and I am using it regularly. It is a challenge, because you have to think a little differently. Sometimes I will spend an entire dive on 1 clump combing it for something. My eyes are going on me, so I see better through the lenses.. | Niteflightphoto 10210 point member

sorry- had more to say- I do think the 5x with a 60 mm would be amazing. So its now on my bucket list. But I have photographed some very weird looking stuff. Oh I would highly recommend getting a tripod, because any movement is very apparent. THat is also next on my list. Really like this week! Good luck. So how many trips did you win? Need someone to carry your bags? Suzan | Niteflightphoto 10210 point member

Thanks Suzan, Do you have a focus nob on your port or do focus from the housing? I have heard that it is easier to hold the port for manual focus so I am considering a set up with this feature. But I would like to know how useful this really is, or if you can do without it. Well, so far I have not won any trips. I suppose it takes a while to hear back. No need to carry bags, If I leave the camera gear at home, you could probably just fit into my carry-on | Tony Cherbas 10793 point member

Hi Tony, I have a focus lever on my Sea & Sea housing. Oh and you should definitely have a focus light...cuz when you get down that small, you want to be able to nail focus immediately when you see something... and because you have so much lens going on- it tends to want to refocus-which as u know can be the difference between getting the shot or not... also- if you have a focus lock lever on your housing is really helpful, because you can lock in and then just move your body back and forth until you see what you want to shoot. Then you have a lot more control. THe focus lock on my housing is a tad to far away for my fingers to reach. So Its all in the wrist action, ha ha... | Niteflightphoto 10210 point member

oh- and you know, you will get used to what ever you get, eventually. auto focus is nice, because you can just keep retapping it, to keep the "eye" on the subject | Niteflightphoto 10210 point member
