message this message is important Dear Brice,

thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest smile

You've requested a critique of your photo. How it works :
I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones
( if there are any ). My critique will be like 2-3 posts in total, please wait with any answers untill
you see the note "photo critic completed" - thanks smile

As we photo critics do this job as volunteers, a "thank you" is always appreciated
( no "thanks" = no more critiques ).

Photo critiques here at UWP are meant to give a helping hand with
an analytic review & to suggest solutions.
The objective is to see you here as winner one day smile

And here we go ( critique/review starts with the next post ) !

First impression
No white balance sniff

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 )
Exposure : 3, Colours: 2, Sparpness: 2, DOF ( depht of field ) : 2, Contrast : 3

Suggestions :
To play with DOF is ok but the sharpness point should be always on the eyes. To much cyan colour. On your PC you should use the white balance tool.

Composition :
Frontal shot is ok; to put the subject centered in the frame is not the best idea.

Suggestions :
Centered works only when you have a symmetry or when you go very close to the subject.

Subject :
Squids are very nice subjects, but sometimes very shy and difficult to shoot.

Suggestions :
Work a little bit with strobe settings. A squid has so much colours and this colours we would like to see.

Epilogue :
Welcome to UWP. This photo could be done better. Important is the strobe. If we see more colours on the subject you will have a better contrast. PC work will do the rest (reflections in the water ...). If you need help I recommend you the PS course here at UWP. Looking forward to see your next submit.

All the best,

Roland
