message this message is important Dear John,
Thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest smile

You've requested a critique of your photo. How it works :
I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones ( if there are any ). My critique will be like 2-3 posts in total, please wait with any answers until you see the note 'photo critic completed' - thanks smile

As we photo critics do this job as volunteers, a 'thank you' is always appreciated (no 'thanks' = no more critiques ).

Photo critiques here at UWP are meant to give a helping hand with an analytic review & to suggest solutions. The objective is to see you here as winner one day smile

And here we go ( critique/review starts with the next post ) !
cool

message  Photo Critique

First impression
nice pose and nice background

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 )
Exposure : 5, Colours: 5, Sharpness: 4, DOF ( depth of field ) : 4, Contrast : 4

Suggestions :
as far as I see the rhinophores are not as sharp as they could be. The DoF doesn't work for me here. The gills should be in focus or even more out than here. To get more contrast and texture, try to move your strobes as far out as possible (9 and 3 o'clock) and then towards the subject. This gives you smoother lightening which enhances texture

Composition
doh! centred subject
wink close
wink great background

Suggestions :
think diagonal! Use the rule of thirds. I always use the grid screen in my camera. the G12 should have that function too. It works fine for me smile

message  Subject
great nudi (again wink )
There are ziollions of good to excellent nudi shoot out there. Why ? They're great subjects and quite easy to shoot. roll eyes

Suggestions :
in order to make your nudi stand out from the crowd it has to be original, more than all the others. To win a contest :practice, practice, practice!
Yes I know, I also hear this constantly Stick out your tongue . But use the slowness of this species to be original

Epilogue
To win a contest it needs a WOW-effect. This photo isn't there yet, but no reason to tears .
You have all it needs to get there soon smile I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work here on UWP soon

All the best,

Mona rose
