Dear Adam,

Thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest smile

You've requested a critique of your photo.

How it works:

I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones (if there are any ).

My critique will be like 3-4 posts in total, please wait with any answers until
you see the note "photo critic completed" - thanks smile

As we photo critics do this job as volunteers and as this service ist free of charge, at least a feedback on how this critique was useful to you is always appreciated.

Photo critiques here at UWP are meant to give a helping hand with an analytic review & to suggest solutions.

The objective is to see you here as winner one day smile

And here we go ( critique/review starts with the next post ) !

First impression

Nice!

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 )

Exposure : 5, Colours: 4, Sharpness: 4, DOF ( depth of field ) : 5, Contrast : 4

Suggestions :

That's a very nice first entry shot with respect to a compact cam picture without flashes. Yes if you know your gear, and especially the limits and your acting within the given range, you can make nice pictures with compacts as well. Have a look at the picuters of our World Champ Brian Mayes who takes his award winning pictures also with a compact cam with internal flash only!

I like your low depth of field. It could even a bit more bokeh. You can reach that with an even more open aperture. Be aare to shoot the eyes crisp sharp. The point of focus is a few behind the eyes.

The colors a fine. There is only a slight yellow color cast you can get rid of by postprocessing.

Please be careful with adjusting the contrast. It's h...

message  Composition :

diagonal smile
centered head and eyes frown
nice camera position smile

Suggestions :

Try to fill the frame and place the eyes with the rule of third. Try to avoid those bright spots as we see one above the gobi. Be aware not to cut the animal's parts a little like the tail. leave a bit sourrounding. Or cut brave!

Subject :

Gobis a loved by spectators as well as by photographers. There is a hard competition on the most dramatic and most bokeh shot ongoing.

Suggestions :

Search for "Gobi" in the search mask here at UWP and get inpired of all thos gobi shots. You have to choose to enter the superlative competition or and that's always the better way, top them all with a more creative approach in photographing gobis.
