Photo Critique :
First impression :
Nice face to face … unfortunately with too many distracting elements
Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 ) :
Exposure : 4, Colours: 4, Sharpness: 4, DOF ( depth of field ) : 4, Contrast : 4
Suggested Solution :
Your picture looks quite good…. a sharp animal with a blurred background works usually well. In that case, the right part of the background is disturbing a bit for me (especially the white spot), … as something in the first plan on the left (composition part).
If you use a higher shutter speed and/or smaller aperture to darken the background (the right part in that case), it can help. It could help also for the sharpness… and DOF could be bigger.
Finally, and for the detail, sharpness could still be improved a bit on the eyes … where people look first (the focus point could be more on it).

Composition :
You are close to your subject : good.
The place in the frame of your subject work.
You cut a part of the top fins of the subject, but it's not disturbing in that case
In addition to the white spot on the right, there is something in the first plan on the left that is disturbing too much for me.
Suggested Solution :
The real place for improvement here is just to take care of all the little things which could be disturbing between the subject and the lens … or just behind (like on the right)… playing with it can be done, but it is not so easy … a good viewer can help :-).

Subject
A great face to face with a nice subject. I love these little fishes :-).
These subjects require patience and you did well !
Suggested Solution :
Your angle of shooting is good.
Your approach could be still improved. Being just a bit on the right you would certainly avoid to have something blurred and distracting in the first plan… and you would have a more facing animal (showing the two eyes) what is always nice and often more impressive. Good luck for the next try :-).

Epilogue
As you know, I like to say that pictures must tell something, they should pass on a message or transmit an emotion; a face to face is always a good way to show a nice interaction ... for sure, with a slight different approach you would have more votes.
