You have requested a review of your photo. Let me shortly explain how it works :
As we do have a limited space for each post here, please note that my review will be like 3-4 posts in total. If you want to answer me, please wait until my review has been completed; as photo critics, we do this job as volunteers; a "thank you" is always appreciated 
My review is structured into chapters and I will list problem zones (if there are any) and I will suggest solutions on how to improve results.

Photo Critique :
First impression :
Very nice little subject that I like to see closer to admire its skin’s details
Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 ) :
Exposure : 5, Colours: 5, Sharpness: 5, DOF ( depth of field ) : 5, Contrast : 5
Suggested Solution :
Technically, you’ve done a good job !
You fixed well the right instant, sharpness and DOF are good for this little animal.
Nothing really to add in that point.
In fact, the real place for improvement as to be found in the composition and the approach parts.

Composition :
Close subject which deserved to be closer
A too centred subject
Good neutral background
Suggested Solution :
In general, not to put your subject in the middle of the frame is a good idea to break the symmetry (keep in mind the rule of third).
Then, to have a more impressive animal, I suggest you, without changing the angle of shooting, to go closer until you fill the frame with its face (or almost fill) … for me, the details around the eyes are perfect for a winner picture and could be seen closer. But I know what I suggest is hard to do … especially with this little specie :-).
Also, with an even more facing animal (I mean the tail behind the face), a vertical frame could help to fill the frame easily.

Subject
This specie is an interesting subject for the photographer because of its pattern and colours, but it is not so easy to fix it like we want :-). It requires a lot of patience. Nice challenge Craig !
Suggested Solution :
You catch a face to face with your subject what is always good ! As you know it is good to catch the look.
Because it’s not a so impressive subject like a shark, it’s even more important to have a perfect or an unusual approach to have a picture which attracts immediately the eye of the spectator. It requires (again) to go closer to emphasize it… as I wrote before, filling the frame with the subject gives often a great impact to the picture.

Epilogue
Welcome again on UWP ! Nice start !
For me pictures should tell something, they must pass on a message or transmit an emotion : in that case I like to see this nice animal facing us like interested…. when we can feel this interaction between the photographer and the subject, it’s always nice.
For sure, with a closer approach, you would have more votes !
