message Hi Suzan, thanks.
Sorry for interrupting you with my picture smile
I will wait for your picture of Mandarinfishes on the UWP site too. They are very interesting and beautiful creatures: I saw their meeting, mating and also fighting - it was lovely and funny!
Best wishes,
Iyad

message Where was it that you photographed this ? ... and were they shy about light? I found them to be very difficult to photograph because so shy.
What was your camera set up. I think this is a lovely shot..

message This picture was taken in Puerto Galera (the Philippines) and some shots of Mandarinfishes I photographed also in Anilao...
I used red light instead of white while sunset and night dives, as red light doesn't disturb many shy subjects and Mandarinfishes in particular. I agree, these subjects are difficult to photograph, but I spent 7 sunset-night dives to take different pictures of them... And it was amazing to watch their behavior. By the way I have some more interesting pictures of them, where I could photograph their rare conduct and movements. But I will upload it later... wink
I photographed with Nikon D3s, 2 x 161-DS Ikelite strobes in manual mode, 105 mm macro lens, ISO 200, f18,1/160.

Cheers, Iyad

message thank you for this information... may I ask what type of red light you are using? is it the Sola?
I didn't have a red light- so tried plastic red bag over the focus light- but was still too bright..

message Yes, I use Sola 1200. I think it is the best focus light in the market at the moment.
It has three levels of brightness of red and white light, so it is possible to take it by controll which power and what type of light you need.

message aha.. I have the baby sola that is only white. I had to use the focus light on my hand. lock focus, turn off all my lights and wait for the motion to get my shot. I got it.. but was really murder.
