message this message is important Dear William,
You have requested a review of your photo. As I see, you play regularly … that’s good smile
Remember that critical comments are meant to help you improve your work with an analytic review.
As you already know the foreword, I will directly start with my review :

Photo Critique :

First impression :
1) Interesting contrasted background 2) Animal could be more visible

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 ) :
Exposure : 4, Colours: 4, Sharpness: 4, DOF ( depth of field ) : 5

Suggested Solution :
Be careful with the "dynamic colour boost" in postproduction… it gives an interesting contrast but it’s not so natural.
What is special with this animal is to have a real good sharpness on the head in macro shoot. The long rostrum is often responsible of this trap … sometimes it’s a photographer’s problem too smile

message  Composition :
Your composition works even if the animal is centred, but the interesting background - because of the position of the subject - is disturbing the perfect visibility of the animal.

Suggested Solution :
It could have been even better to have the body of the subject in front of the black.
Just to add something, if you had been a little bit closer, it would have “erased” the soft coral part in the bottom right-hand corner.

Nice subject for geometric composition with – once – a centred subject smile

Suggested Solution :
Nothing to add in that point.

With the body in front of the black background it had been even better. Maybe you have on other shoot of this animal to try a different cropping for a geometric effect.
For this one it’s like a star in the dark … nice effect.
All the best and happy bubbles.
