message this message is important Dear Jacobo,
Thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest smile

You've requested a critique of your photo. How it works :
I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones ( if there are any ). My critique will be like 2-3 posts in total, please wait with any answers until you see the note 'photo critic completed' - thanks smile

As we photo critics do this job as volunteers, a 'thank you' is always appreciated (no 'thanks' = no more critiques ).

Photo critiques here at UWP are meant to give a helping hand with an analytic review & to suggest solutions. The objective is to see you here as winner one day smile

And here we go ( critique/review starts with the next post ) !

message  Photo Critique

First impression
Shy critters well captured.....but the background...hm.....

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 )
Exposure : 4, Colours: 14, Sparpness: 24, DOF ( depht of field ) : 4, Contrast : 3

Suggestions :
I would love to see a bit more texture on the fish' body and I generally think, that a higher f-stop number would help to isolate the subjects and bring out the colours better.

Composition
Not centered ( good ! ), nice pose ( good ! ) but the background decreases the impact a bit.

Suggestions :
I know : talking about it is easier than doing it. This is the natural habitat of these lifeforms so a better composition needs to be done with the f-stop. 2 f-stops more, then !

message Hey Jacobo,
glad to hear that you benefit from the critique smile

To be honest : I would even go to F16 ! But it depends on your strobe...of course. Don't you worry : I think you have made this one with your 100mm makro lens. With a 100mm lens you anyway would get a blurry background, even with F16 ;-) Blurry background is good ( in this case )...it only could be a bit darker. A bit I've said...not black !!!

Good luck for your next "mandarin fish" session !!

Best,

Rico
