Hello,

I am looking for some suggestions for my underwater camera. Here is my present setup. I have an Olympus C-770 ultrazoom in a PT-022 Olympus housing. I have a standard tray and arm that holds an Olympus FL-20 above water flash unit in a PFL-01 housing. The two units are lashed together with a TTL cable. I used this for two weeks in Hawaii and I found the flash to be totally underpowered for the underwater world. I was down in Florida last week and the cable port to the flash housing broke, flooding the flash unit. I am seeing this as an opportunity to upgrade to a better strobe unit. I really like the ability to have TTL metering using the Olympus cable, but I don't know if any commercially available flash units can lash up to that cable. I fully understand the need for a dedicated underwater flash unit, but I would like to avoid using the flash of the camera to trigger the flash, because that will drain the camera battery too quickly.

message If I can piggyback onto this e-mail.....I also recently purchased an Olympus SP 350 and a PT030 housing. I am also interested in adding a flash unit and also wonder if anyone who might be using one, could let me know if you use any filters.

I have the sp-350 with the olympus housing and a sea & sea ys50 strobe with a heinrich weikamp digital adapter. This strobe works great with this camera and shoots ttl.I also use the auto magic filter from magic filter. It works great at aprox. 45' or above.

message Thanks for the update. I purchaes the Heinrich Weikamp digital adapter website yesterday and a Sea & Sea YS120 strobe off of Ebay. I hope to lash it all together and have it ready for my dive trip to Florida in January. I will post how it all works out. BTW, Heinrich is great to work with, answers emails very quickly and walks you through the steps of ordering his parts. He even looked at the strobes I was considering buying on Ebay and advised me of the best unit to buy.
