| Hi - Just had my first experience with an underwater camera - great focus, good photos but lost colour - am told that I need to work with the white balance, but not able to find this feature [Yes, does exist, but Fuji not helpful thus far] and many questions - there's a 'custom' setting [apparently] but does this get set above water, at one level - and does it apply only to one level, how long does it remain effective, does it need changing when I come shallower/ go deeper - all this after I find where it is and learn to adjust it! Photos I have taken have been with camera set to 'underwater' mode [when I thought that it would make all the necessary adjustments itself - ha ha], or in auto - using the camera's flash + a strobe offset and higher. I think waht I now need is a specific course with this camera to learn how to get the very best out of it - it's fast, easy to use [well, ought to be once I find the setting], no problem in its housing - just frustrating! Help please - Ross.: | Photosaab 27 point member

| | Hi Ross, There is a custom white balance setting on the camera which you will need to set for each depth when not using the flash/strobe. The setting only applies for the depth at which you set it, although you will get away with it within a couple of meters of the setting depth. A good photo editing suite will pull the colours back. You will also need to increase the ISO setting when not using a flash/strobe. I would forget the underwater mode on the camera. Also forget the auto setting. Unfortunately all the best photos are taken on the manual setting. I had a Fuji F11which produced some lovely pics. To start of with I set it on the manual setting with aperture/fstop priority and the ISO set at 200. I would suggest taking non-moving subjects at a distance of about 1 meter with the aperture/f stop set at 5.6 and using the strobe. For non strobe/flash pics try a magic filter. website Jacko | Jacko 472 point member

| | Thanks Jacko - I've made some progress, tho' hard going with FUJI, who I'd expect to have all the answers! They don't seem keen on my being critical of their U/W mode - surprise!! Next trip is end of May - John Bantin of UK's DIVER magazine has been helpful [apart from his initial review of the camera when he missed the manual and custom settings!] - see how I get on - can you suggest a good photo editing suite, please? The camera does give great performance, and promise for possibilities with a DSLR, but aim to explore the F100fd more first - thanks for the tips - will see how I get on. | | Hi Ross, I use Adobe Photoshop CS4. 1,2,and 3 are also good, although I don't think 1 and 2 have the RAW editing facility. Also Adobe Lightroom, which is a cheaper option. Enjoy your trip. Jacko | Jacko 472 point member

| | Thanks Jacko - I am also following up the link you provided re the filters - which also then leads into underwaterphotography.co.uk and a whole load of information + specifically they sell the F100fd, so going to email them for more assistance if I still have queries [at this stage] before we go on the next trip. In the meantime, I'll look at Adobe and see what I can achieve with my lion fish photos amongst others. Ross | Photosaab 27 point member
