message Google say: "Whether you type, speak or upload a photo, once you’ve indicated what you’re looking for the next step in your search is to sift through the results and pick one. To make this faster, last year we introduced Google Instant, which gives you search results while you type. We estimated Google Instant saves you between two and five seconds on typical searches. But once you’ve picked a result, you click, and then wait again for the page to load—for an average of about five seconds."

UPDATE: Search By Image is now available in the UK: We have have tested the system over a few random images and it works Very Very Well!! - try it here: website
You can even drag/drop an image on it and it will find similar images!

UPDATE: full detailed look at 'Search By Image' here: website

WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS for people looking for images this is great but what about photographers? Does it mean it will be easier to steal our shots?

I just did this with one of my wolf eel images and was amazed to see the results. It didn't ID the species but it did return underwater shots. What it did do though was show me all the web pages where people were using my image (most without permission). That's got to be a good thing...

NOTE: IE8 doesn't seem to be too happy to work with drag/dropped images but when I try it in Google Chrome that works a treat (it would do wouldn't it!)

Anyone else got any thoughts on this Google feature?
