message  Dear Gleb,
Thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest smile

You've requested a critique of your photo. How it works :
I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones ( if there are any ). My critique will be like 2-3 posts in total, please wait with any answers until you see the note 'photo critic completed' - thanks smile

Photo critiques here at UWP are meant to give a helping hand with an analytic review & to suggest solutions. The objective is to see you here as winner one day smile

And here we go ( critique/review starts with the next post ) !
cool

First impression
a cleaner...out of the dark wink

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 )
Exposure : 4, Colours: 5, Sharpness: 4, DOF ( depht of field ) :4, Contrast : 4

Suggestions :
what strikes me most is the direction of your strobe. The lower part of your image is lit, but the interest is elsewhere. An internal strobe is not easy to handle. If youcan't afford an external strobe, use a diffuser or why not use a white slate to reflect the light smile

Composition
doh! the rocky part in the 2 upper corners distract the eye from the subject
doh! subject is in the middle of the frame
smile eye level, but you can hardly see them

Suggestions :
get closer and focus on the eyes! Try different angles to avoid distracting parts in your shot

message  Subject cleaner shrimps make great subjects, they are colourful and "cool" with their claws. Again here there are ziollions of photos on the net and if you want THE ONE you need to go creative smile

Suggestions :
try different angles, play with the DOF, and why not with an external light source like a torch

Epilogue
To get a winning shot the 3P's are essential : practice, practice, practice. Try to get away from the conventionnal ID frame, go wild smile there are no limits in imagination, whatever camera model you use! I hope to see more pics rom you soon here on uwp.com

All the best,

Mona

message Thank you very much for your critique! It is really usefull. It is one of my first shots taken with a new gear (DSLR with 2 strobes). It was really hard to get close to this shrimp hiding between corals and even more difficult to light it. The strobes were very close to the port that made an impression of internal flash. I'll try to go wild during practice and practice. Thank you more. smile
