Dear Ellen, Thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest You've requested a critique of your photo. How it works: I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones (if there are any ). My critique will be like 3-4 posts in total, please wait with any answers until you see the note "photo critic completed" - thanks As we photo critics do this job as volunteers and as this service ist free of charge, at least a feedback on how this critique was useful to you is always appreciated. Photo critiques here at UWP are meant to give a helping hand with an analytic review & to suggest solutions. The objective is to see you here as winner one day And here we go ( critique/review starts with the next post ) ! | Henry Jager 8024 point member

Photo Critique First impression That's an exciting scene. Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 ) Exposure : 5, Colours: 5, Sharpness: 4, DOF ( depth of field ) : 4, Contrast : 5 Suggestions : A nice shot, also technically. The saturation of the blue is a bit too high. I suggest you also to clean up the background (backscatter), this picture is worth it. Have a look at the histogramm. You'll see that the lights are missing and that the picture coud gain from a soft increase of the midtones. The part where the sunlight/daylight enters the surface could be much brighter. Composition : CFWA is a very attractive way of composition. The eyes of the lobster ar with the rule of thirds Suggestions : A real boost would be with increasing the size of the lobster. At least double the size of it. Don't crop too tight to the subjects especially the boat. | Henry Jager 8024 point member

Subject : The combination of a lobster and the diveboat is well chosen and attractive. Epilogue : This is a nice example on how much it's worth to be patient, watch the subjects behaviour and take the pictures in the best moment. I'm sure we'll see lot more nice pictures of you and I'm looking forward to your next uploads. One other thing: I would avoid double copyright on the picture. | Henry Jager 8024 point member

Thanks, Henry! I very much appreciate the suggestions! I didn't want to Photoshop it too much, but one thing I also was thinking of doing was bringing out the lobster's antenna a bit by lightening it up. I'll definitely be playing around with this shot. And yes, I tried to remove the double copyright but was unable to. I had forgotten that I already had it on the image. Thanks again for all the comments! Ellen | Ellen 254 point member
