Close up of a sea fan (105mm macro lens) using a slow shutter (1/30sec) to pick out the background blue.
Hogfish (Lachnolaimus maximus) at intermediate stage.
Side shot of another Yellow-headed Jawfish
This shot of a hard coral is greater than life size and was taken with a 105mm lens and +3 diopter, using a side-lighting technique to emphasise the texture and shadows.

Capturing the Rogue Lionfish.
With the apparent proliferation of Lionfish in the Caribbean waters, divemasters are regularly capturing these "pests" and bringing them in for evaluation by marine biologist. Jen netted a good size one.
Early morning natural light shot of a Southern Stingray and attendant Remora; the latter revealed by catching the upbeat of the nearside wing. A red filter helped the colours come through more strongly.

nice 'under the boat' reef shot Jon
Flamingo Tounge Cowrie on Sea Fan. A static subject, but in reality not as easy at it looks. There was significant surge, but this image provided a strong natural diagonal and great colours for a pleasing overall composition.
"YES, THAT'S MY BUDDY!". Moray awaiting his cleaning.
Night dive shot of a large shrimp. A few inches in length. Haven't seen these before. Their eyes are amazing. (This was before the blood worms started swarming. Yuk!!)
I hate vacation week. It is exhausting when the kids are out of school.
A shot of a Conch's eye taken close in and from sea bed level. It has an almost alien feel.
shortlistedShortlisted!
This was taken on a photo workshop with Dr Alex Mustard, using an off-camera strobe technique to light the diver and inside of the cavern, using only a hint of foreground flash, sufficient to trigger the main lighting.
shortlistedShortlisted!
Yellow stingray. Bloody Bay, Little Cayman
Barrel Sponge and Diver taken off the East end of Grand Cayman. The sponge was almost directly under the dive boat, so it was simply a matter of camping out with the camera set up until a diver dropped into frame; which one duly did.
