Spanish Dancer Rhinophore
Australian fur seal relaxing.
this is a photo taken of a Yellow Moray up close.
Crusty the Loggerhead
Sea Hare egg mass - perhaps dropped from the pier above or stirred up from the nearby boat's propeller but as they are usually found on sandy sea floors I was surprised to see it above me (though quite happy to take advantage of the opportunity).
Simple shot of Grey Moray Eel that I had a chat to at the Poor Knights NZ. Nice fella!
Beginning of a dusk/night dive under Rye pier this beautiful sponge caught my eye..
Female weedy seadragon (Phyllopteryx teaniolatus) photographed as she came around a pylon..
Australian Fur Seal in Port Phillip Bay. Incredibly interactive this shot was taken on snorkel - love these animals.
Hypselodoris bennetti, Nelson Bay
Just for a different angle on most of the weedy seadragon photos I've already entered - a male weedy seadragon heading under the pier...
Platypus Cowrie (Cuspivolva platysia) amongst blue polyps of host gorgonian at Little Beach, Nelson Bay.
Opisthobranch (Bullina lineata) at Fly Point, Nelson Bay.
Blairgowrie pier, Port Philip Bay.
shortlistedShortlisted!
Australias east coast Grey Nurse Shark. Photo taken at the Looking Glass @ Broughton Island
Took this with my compact canon D10 camera while snorkelling under the pier with my students yesterday. Its a lions tail jelly but quite damaged. I have adjusted the temperature and removed some distracting light patches but liked how it came out...
This little toad fish came in to see what I was doing but wouldn't come any closer than this - great visibility on this dive. Tokina 10-17mm, 1/200 sec, ISO 100
Just to post something that's not a weedy seadragon, this juvenile Australian fur seal was a constant companion on this dive. Very poor vis at about 0.5 meters he/she was right at the dome peering in. ISO 100, 1/200 sec, Tokina 17mm
Sea Dragon, Bicheno, Tasmania, Australia
Red velvet Fish. Fortesque Bay Tasmania Australia
Another weedy seadragon under Portsea Pier. The vis was great and the weather beautiful - really enjoyed this dive and the seadragons of course! ISO 100, Tokina 10-17mm, f/18, 1/200 sec
This is a very young weedy seadragon taken towards evening off Portsea beach. He/she was only about 7-10 cm long and was pretty hard to find - more an accident really. ISO 100, f/14, Tokina 10-17mm, 1/200th sec.
A Blue Dragon nudibranch. Taken on a Nikon D7000 using a 60mm macro lens.
Sting Ray @ Goldons Bay it's wing appear to mimic the undulations of the sandy floor
Grey Nurse Nose
Eating on the run
Temperate Water Loggerhead
