Sanganeb (Sanganeab) Atoll is located a short distance outside Port Sudan. It was the only place we actually set foot on Sudan terrirory after clearing Customs in Port Sudan. (We stayed on the liveaboard while our crew efficiently cleared us in and out of Customs). The diving in the Sudanese waters was tremendous. The reefs are uncrowded; we only saw one other dive boat during almost 2 weeks in Sudan. The fish life is wonderful and the visibility is great. Unfortunately, the water was warm in September, and we only saw a couple of sharks. However, other large life made up for the missing sharks, such as schools of bumphead parrotfish, squadrons of manta rays, and a few Napolean wrasses.

This is the Sanganeab Lighthouse in Sudan's Red Sea. We stopped there on a 2-week liveaboard trip. If you ever have the opportunity to go there, make the long climb to the top--the view is worth it!
