The Galapagos Islands are the only place on Earth that you can swim with penguins in relatively warm water. We were snorkeling near the island named Chinese Hat, from the liveaboard Flamingo I (Ecoventura). A flock of about 6-10 friendly penguins swam with us for about 20 minutes. They checked out our cameras, flippers (see photo), and nibbled gently at our wetsuits. The bottom was lava rock covered with kelp with marine iguanas were feeding on the kelp. Water temperatures were in the low 70's in May.

An out-post for diving if not a mecca! fantastic Sharks Hammerheads, Silky's Galapagos and white tips, Also we was accompanied by Dolphins on every dive, also can be seen is seal an sea lions amoungst many other smaller fish including Jacks, Yello Fin Tuna, we saw in the distance a sail fish as well. It is expensive for us Brits to get there, but well worth the money.

Excellent place to see the entire BIG show. (whale sharks, hammerheads , grays, white tips, and galapagos sharks. Manta Rays, Spotted Eagle Rays, Large Green Moray Eels, etc...) Currents were strong around Darwin's Arch but it made for a very exciting and dramatic couple of days. The diving was fantastic as we had 14 sightings of whale sharks in 2 days. Swimming out into the big blue through a curtain of hammerheads was the most incredible feeling. This place is truly magical and is a must visit if you are a serious diver.
