Whale sharks congregate in very large numbers in Isla Mujeres every year from June-July to feed on nutrient rich plankton. These majestic gentle giants can grow to over 45 feet in length, and can live over 70 years. Despite their large size, they are not aggressive at all towards humans. You must venture out into the open ocean, sometimes in very rough seas to find them, but it's totally worth it! It is prohibited to scuba with the Whale sharks here, so bring your wetsuit, mask, fins, snorkel, and of course your camera, with as wide of a lens as possible! Giant Mantas are often found here feeding as well this time of year.
