To capture multiple images (Batch Capture)
You can capture
multiple images simultaneously from a MICROMV device. The index
contained on a videotape allows you to select the images you wish to
capture. The captured files are imported into the Clip tray.
You cannot use a MICROMV
device with MovieShaker preinstalled on your computer. If you
wish to use a MICROMV device, see To
use a MICROMV device.
Notes
-
If you wish to capture images from a MICROMV device, or export a final
movie product to a MICROMV device, you must connect the MICROMV
device (to your computer) and turn it on before starting MovieShaker.
For further information about connecting MICROMV devices, see the
Operating Instructions that came with your device.
-
Be sure not to disconnect the i.LINK
cable or turn off the power of the MICROMV device while running MovieShaker.
-
Configure the necessary settings before capturing from MICROMV
devices. For further information, see Settings
for capturing from MICROMV devices.
-
If a heavy load is put on the CPU or hard disk while capturing images
from MICROMV devices, packet
loss may occur. To reduce this problem, set up your computer
according to Configuring your
computer for use with MICROMV devices (Be sure to read this.).
-
Capturing stops if the MICROMV device is disconnected from your
computer, its power turned off, or the videotape ejected from the
MICROMV device.
-
The "Batch Capture" function is disabled unless the MICROMV
device is in VCR mode.
-
Insert a videotape into the MICROMV device.
-
Select the "Device" menu from the Menu bar, and then click
"MICROMV Device" to select it.
-
Click
(the Capture tab).
The Capture tab is highlighted,
and the Monitor panel switches to the Capture tray.
The Tool panel displays the Index
tray where the information of the images on the MICROMV device (e.g.,
Cassette Labels for videotapes, date and time recorded, and recorded
time) appears.
-
Click the "Scan" button.
The dialog box indicating
scanning progress appears.
When scanning
is finished, the completion message is displayed.
-
Click "OK."
The dialog box closes. The thumbnail
for the images are imported from the MICROMV device and displayed on
the Index tray.
Notes
-
The "Scan" button
cannot be clicked after all thumbnail images have been imported.
-
If no change has been made from
the last time, the same thumbnail images appear on the Index tray
next time you import images from the same device. If there is any
change, only the thumbnail images for the modified images are
imported when you click the "Scan" button next time.
-
If the length of images recorded
on a videotape is extremely short, thumbnail images may not be
imported even when you click the "Scan" button.
-
Select the thumbnail image to be captured, and then click the
"Batch Capture" button.
The confirmation dialog box appears.
Hint
To select more than one thumbnail
image simultaneously, click on the desired thumbnail images while
pressing the Ctrl key. To select a sequential block of thumbnail
images, click on the first thumbnail image, and then click on the
last thumbnail image while pressing the Shift key.
Note
When you capture images by
clicking the "Batch Capture" button, images are not
displayed on the monitor while capturing.
-
Click "OK."
The confirmation dialog box
closes, and the dialog box indicating capturing progress appears.
You can cancel capturing by
clicking the "Stop" button while capturing.
When capturing is finished, the
dialog box indicating importing progress appears.
When importing all images is
finished, the captured files are placed on the Clip tray.
Hints
-
Still images recorded using MICROMV devices are handled as movie
files by MovieShaker after they are imported into the Clip tray. The
captured files appear on the Clip tray in the order they are recorded
on the videotape.
-
The files captured from MICROMV devices are automatically named
"MS/Date/Time/Serial Number/Extension (.MMV)." For example,
the file name "MS20010925193015-01.MMV" means that the file
was captured at 19:30:15 on September 25, 2001.
-
When large movie files are captured, they are divided into smaller
files of 4 GB each (about 40 minutes), starting from the beginning of
the images. At breaks in recording sessions, (e.g., recording
start points, etc.), files are also divided during saving. The
resultant files are sequentially numbered automatically.
-
You can enter your comments for videotapes (e.g., the titles, etc.).
To do so, click the "Comment" button to display the
"Comment" dialog box. Enter text in the dialog box, and
then click "OK."
-
The comments you entered are stored on your computer as information
about each videotape. These comments can only be displayed/edited on
the computer. Even when you delete all the contents on a videotape
with Cassette Memory, the comments will remain in your computer.
-
When you finish capturing and return to the editing mode, click
(the Edit tab). The Edit tab is highlighted, and the Edit
tray appears.
Notes
-
As remaining free space on the
hard disk decreases, the HDD remaining space indicator becomes
shorter. Also, when remaining free space becomes less than 50 MB, it
turns red and capturing will cease instantly. For this reason,
beware if the indicator turns red.
-
A thumbnail image that appears on the Index tray may not be the exact
frame at the recording start point (but close to it). This is because
the thumbnail image is imported while the videotape is scanned at
high speed.
A thumbnail image that appears on the Clip tray is always the exact
first frame of the
captured file. Therefore, if you capture fast moving images, there
may be a big difference between the thumbnail images on the Clip tray
and those on the Index tray.
