To capture all images that have an index and arrange them on the Product tray (Dubbing)

You can automatically capture all images that have an index contained on the videotape. The captured files are imported into the Clip tray, and then they are arranged on the Product tray as scenes. (Dubbing)

You cannot use a MICROMV device with MovieShaker preinstalled on your computer. If you wish to use a MICROMV device, see To use a MICROMV device.

Notes

  • If you wish to capture images from a MICROMV device, or export a final movie product to a MICROMV device, you must connect the MICROMV device (to your computer) and turn it on before starting MovieShaker. For further information about connecting MICROMV devices, see the Operating Instructions that came with your device.

  • Be sure not to disconnect the i.LINK cable or turn off the power of the MICROMV device while running MovieShaker.

  • Configure the necessary settings before capturing from MICROMV devices. For further information, see Settings for capturing from MICROMV devices.

  • If a heavy load is put on the CPU or hard disk while capturing images from MICROMV devices, packet loss may occur. To reduce this problem, set up your computer according to Configuring your computer for use with MICROMV devices (Be sure to read this.).

  • Capturing stops if the MICROMV device is disconnected from your computer, its power turned off, or the videotape ejected from the MICROMV device.

  • The "Dubbing" function is disabled unless the MICROMV device is in VCR mode.

  1. Insert a videotape into the MICROMV device.

  2. Select the "Device" menu from the Menu bar, and then click "MICROMV Device" to select it.

  3. Click (the Capture tab).

The Capture tab is highlighted, and the Monitor panel switches to the Capture tray.

The Tool panel displays the Index tray where the information of the images on the MICROMV device (e.g., Cassette Labels for videotapes, date and time recorded, and recorded time) appears.

  4. Click the "Dubbing" button.

The "Dubbing - Confirm Batch Capture" dialog box appears.

  5. Click "OK."

The "Dubbing - Batch Capturing" dialog box appears.

You can cancel capturing by clicking the "Stop" button while capturing.

When capturing is finished, the dialog box indicating importing progress appears.

When importing all images is finished, the captured files are placed on the Clip tray and they are automatically arranged on the Product tray as scenes.

When dubbing is finished, the Monitor panel switches to the Edit tray.

  6. Click "Export" if you want to export the scenes arranged on the Product tray.

The final movie product is exported. For further information about exporting, see To save/export a final movie product.

Hints

  • Still images recorded using MICROMV devices are handled as movie files by MovieShaker after they are imported into the Clip tray. The captured files appear on the Clip tray in the order they are recorded on the videotape.

  • The files captured from MICROMV devices are automatically named "MS/Date/Time/Serial Number/Extension (.MMV)." For example, the file name "MS20010925193015-01.MMV" means that the file was captured at 19:30:15 on September 25, 2001.

  • When large movie files are captured, they are divided into smaller files of 4 GB each (about 40 minutes), starting from the beginning of the images. At breaks in recording sessions, (e.g., recording start points, etc.), files are also divided during saving. The resultant files are sequentially numbered automatically.

  • You can enter your comments for videotapes (e.g., the titles, etc.). To do so, click the "Comment" button to display the "Comment" dialog box. Enter text in the dialog box, and then click "OK."

The comments you entered are stored on your computer as information about each videotape. These comments can only be displayed/edited on the computer. Even when you delete all the contents on a videotape with Cassette Memory, the comments will remain in your computer.

Notes

  • Images that are captured by clicking the "Dubbing" button are only portion from the recording start point (index) to the recording stop point. If the videotape has been re-recorded over any portion of its length, and there is a break from its recording stop point to the next recording start point, that portion of images will be skipped (see below).

In the example shown above, image (A-D) was recorded first, followed by image (D-E). If a new image (B-C) is recorded over the first image, the following happens during capture using the "Dubbing" button:

Section (A-B) is captured. Then (B-C) is captured. The videotape will then automatically fast forward, skip section (C-D), and then start capturing section (D-E). Section (C-D) is not captured.

  • As remaining free space on the hard disk decreases, the HDD remaining space indicator becomes shorter. Also, when remaining free space becomes less than 50 MB, it turns red and capturing will cease instantly. For this reason, beware if the indicator turns red.
