Capturing images from DV devices
You can capture images
being played back on the DV
device connected to your computer.
Notes
-
If you wish to capture images from a DV device, or export a final
movie product to a DV device, you must connect the DV device (to
your computer) and turn it on before starting MovieShaker. For
further information about connecting DV devices, see the Operating
Instructions or the online manual that came with your computer.
-
Be sure not to disconnect the i.LINK
cable or turn off the power of the DV device while running MovieShaker.
-
Configure the necessary settings before capturing from DV devices.
For further information, see Settings
for capturing from DV devices.
-
If a heavy load is put on the CPU or hard disk while capturing images
from DV devices, lost frames
may occur. To reduce this problem, set up your computer according to Configuring
your computer for use with DV devices (Be sure to read this.).
-
Insert a videotape into the DV device.
-
Select the "Device" menu from the Menu bar, and then click
"DV Device" to select it.
Note
Depending on your computer, the
"Device" menu may not be displayed and this step is not necessary.
-
Click
(the Capture tab).
The Capture tab is highlighted,
and the Monitor panel switches to the Capture tray.
-
Stop playing the tape just before the point you want to start capturing.
-
Click the Play button.
Images recorded in the DV device
are played on the monitor.
-
When the start point to be captured is displayed, click the
"Capture" button.
Capturing starts.
Observe the HDD remaining space
indicator. As remaining free space on the hard disk decreases, it
becomes shorter. Also, when remaining free space is insufficient, it
turns red.
Note
If available free space on the
hard disk becomes less than 50 MB, capturing will cease instantly.
For this reason, beware if the indicator turns red.
-
When the end point to be captured is displayed, click the "Stop
Capture" button.
When capturing is finished, the
dialog box indicating importing progress appears.
When importing is finished, the
captured files are placed on the Clip tray.
To capture other images back to
back, repeat steps 4 through 7.
Hints
-
The files captured from DV
devices are automatically named "MS/Date/Time/Serial
Number/Extension (.DV)." For example, the file name
"MS20010925193015-01.DV" means that the file was captured
at 19:30:15 on September 25, 2001.
-
When large movie files are captured, they are divided into smaller
files of 4 GB each (about 18 minutes), starting from the beginning of
the images. In addition, if the recording
mode (SP and LP) of the tape is switched, or if the audio
mode (2 languages, stereo, mono) is switched, files are also
divided during saving. If you set to divide files automatically at
the recording
start points (in the Setting dialog box), they will also be
divided there. The resultant files are sequentially numbered automatically.
-
Capturing begins from the point
where the "Capture" button is clicked while an image
recorded in the DV device is being played on the monitor.
-
You can stop capturing by
clicking .
-
When you finish capturing and
return to the editing mode, click
(the Edit tab). The Edit tab is highlighted, and the Edit
tray appears.
Note
You cannot capture images while they are displayed on the Full screen monitor.
