Getting familiar with the Edit tray

A Shake tab

Click this tab to display the Shake tray.

When you click the tab, it is highlighted, and the Shake tray appears.

B Capture tab

Click this tab to display the Capture tray.

When you click the tab, it is highlighted, and the Capture tray appears.

C Edit tab

Click this tab to display the Edit tray.

When you click the tab, it is highlighted, and the Edit tray appears.

D Speed control slider

Use this slider to slow down or speed up the playback speed of a scene, a piece of BGM, or a narration displayed on the monitor.

Moving the Speed control slider to the left slows down the playback speed, and moving it to the right speeds it up.

Notes

  • If more than one scene is selected from the Product tray, you cannot adjust the playback speed.

  • If a movie, a still image, or a sound file is selected from the Clip tray and displayed on the monitor, you cannot adjust the playback speed.

E Volume control slider

Use this slider to adjust the volume of a scene, a piece of BGM, or a narration displayed on the monitor.

Moving the Volume control slider to the left turns the volume down, and moving it to the right turns it up.

Notes

  • If a scene without sound is displayed on the Edit tray, or more than one scene is selected from the Product tray, you cannot adjust the volume.

  • If a movie, a still image, or a sound file is selected from the Clip tray and displayed on the monitor, you cannot adjust the volume.

F Effect palette

The Effect palette provides a choice of effects. You can drag effects from the Effect tray or the Text tray and drop them on the Effect palette.

By placing the mouse pointer over an effect on the Effect palette, the name of the effect appears under the pointer.

To specify the effect duration, click the effect on the Effect palette. If you double-click the text effect, you can change the font and colors, and enter text.

G Fade-in check box, Fade-out check box

Click to select these boxes to set a scene, a piece of BGM, or a narration (displayed on the monitor) to fade in or fade out.

Notes

  • If a scene without sound is displayed on the Edit tray, or more than one scene is selected from the Product tray, you cannot set fade-in or fade-out.

  • If a movie, a still image, or a sound file is selected from the Clip tray and displayed on the monitor, you cannot set fade-in or fade-out.

H Monitor

The monitor is where you can view a scene or a movie being edited.

I Time slider, Time slider knob

The Time slider knob indicates the current position within a scene being played, and the Time slider bar represents its (time) length. The Time slider knob moves from left to right as playing progresses.

J Save as still image button

Click this button to save a frame shown on the monitor as a still image.

K Trimming range marker, Trimming start point knob, Trimming end point knob

The portion (range) indicated between the left and right Trimming knobs is used in a movie, i.e., you can specify the portion of the effect within a scene that you wish to use in your final movie product.

L Effect range marker, Effect start point knob, Effect end point knob

A selected effect is applied to the portion indicated between the left and right Effect knobs. With these knobs, you can specify the effect range.

M Play control buttons

These buttons control playing the movie currently displayed on the Edit tray monitor.

: Returns to the beginning of the movie displayed on the monitor.

: Rewinds the movie displayed on the monitor.

: Starts/pauses playing. If you select the Play trimming range check box and click this button, only the portion to be used in the movie (between the left and right Trimming knobs) is played. If you click this button without selecting the Play trimming range check box, the whole scene is played.

: Fast-forwards the movie displayed on the monitor.

N Repeat-Play check box

Click to select this check box (before clicking the Play button) to play scenes, BGM, narrations, or a movie repeatedly.

O Play trimming range check box

Click to select this check box (before clicking the Play button) to play only the portion you specified (between the left and right Trimming knobs).

P Full screen preview button

Click this button to play scenes or a movie on the Full screen monitor.

Q Trash

The Trash is where you drag and drop clips and/or scenes that are no longer necessary.

Note that placing clips and/or scenes in the Trash does not mean deleting the original files from the storage media.
