Smaller subjects typically 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5cm) shot on macro settings or with macro equipment that are in MID WATER not touching anything (i.e. between 1:1 and 1:3)
Cube Trunkfish - Red sea, D70s, 60mm
Squid watching you
Clarkes Anemonefish, taken at Mana Island Fiji
This batfish was curiously swimming around me during safety stop. Taken at Fish Haven @ Perhentian Island, Malaysia
Making eye contact with your subject is essential.
Green turtle, Olympus 3040, SB 105 strobe.
Have you ever seen a Trumpet Fish so close up? It was a lucky and speedy shot. Taken by Nikonos V with 1-2 extention tube and framer.
'Gun Barrel' Urchin in Tube sponge. Cozumel, Mexico. Housed Nikon F; 55mm auto-micro Nikkor. Enjoy!
A tiny (1 cm) juvenile Highhat. This is one of the toughest photos I've ever taken. I wasn't sure if it was a Highhat or a Spotted Drum, but Paul Humann ID'ed it for me. Nikon D200 with 60mm lens.

Great natural history shot Jim. One for the photo library!
Western Blue Devil, taken at African Reef, Geraldton. They are a magnificent blue.
Bared Hamlet-"Give me a break" Mahahaul, Mex. DC500 Sealife
Sand tile fish, although for some reason I have always been told they are called slippery dicks!!! I love the colour of the scales over their gills
My 100th post !! Wow, time flies.. this is my all-time favourite... a tiny juvenile cuttlefish pretending to be a coral polyp. E900.
Lion fish trying to sneak away low down on the reef.....South Ari Atoll, Maldives.
A slightly different view of a Parrot fish. D200,60mm.
'BASKET STAR' Certainly one of our Coral Kindom's rather unusual and unique inhabitants. Totally nocturnal, highly light sensitive and extremely quick and mobile. I have seen animals with five foot appendages on several occasions. Enjoy!
Compass Jellyfish, Trearddur bay, Anglesey. Nikon D70s, 60mm.
Leafy Ghostpipefish at Maya Bay, Phi Phi Islands. Everyone on the dive boat went crazy after we found this little guy in the shallow water in a swim through, hidden between old leaves
A different view. Galapagos 2006.
'RHINO' Rhinopias. Loloata Island, Port Moresby, PNG. From my 'Fish Portraits from Around the World' series. Housed Nikon F; 55mm auto-micro Nikkor lens. Enjoy!
Lyretail anthias in the blue.
