I had just a fraction of a second to pull my hands, holding the camera, back into the cage before this cutie was almost in my face. This is one of those moments in which I miss a motor winder in my Nikonos V. Dyer island, Gansbaai, South Africa.

"Shark Patrol" Sony T1 BoraBora Tahiti ,internal flash,
Filefish amidst a forest of soft coral and brain coral. At dive site called Divi Tree in Bonaire. June 2004
Manta birostris. This manta was caught on film as late afternoon sun poured down from above. A Nikonos V, 15 mm lens, and Fuji Velvia film was used to capture the image.
Murène Léopard / Maldives
The Boy and The Lion. My son James looks down at a lionfish from the pontoon above. Nikon D100, 16mm, SB105s. One of 4 shots as the fish swam past, but the only one where the boy's face wasn't too distorted.

You wait for the shark to get close enough, hope he will turn just a little so he'll fit in nicely into your vertical frame, and press the button. That's it.
