When spotting a whip coral check the surface of the coral if there is a variation in texture. It will probably be a whip coral shrimp as they are perfectly camouflaged with the coral’s colour and polyp structure.Jan_2024

"Smile"
A Sailfin Blenny showing its teeth.
"The Portal"
Jelly suspended in the crystal clear waters of the mangrove.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Next in Line"
This Filefish must have been enjoying his morning cleaning, as these guys are usually to timid to let divers approach.
"Interaction" - Caribbean reef shark and diver
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Bearded Face"
A Bearded Fire Worm posing for the camera.
"In My Face"
Close up of a Blenny.
"Colorful Surroundings"
A Banded Coral Shrimp sits on a very vibrant sponge.
"Field of Flowers"
A Landscape view of coral polyps.
"Spinnin"
A large head of Brain Coral photographed with a slow shutter speed and twist.
"Orange Escape"
An Orange Elephant Ear Sponge down the wall on the North Side of Grand Cayman.
As the Eagle-ray looks for food it gave me the chance to get this shot it was at trinity caves come dive with us at DNS diving in grand cayman
Shot with a d300-10.5fisheye single ikelite strobe
"Munchin"
A Hawksbill Turtle digs into some sponge.
"The Chase"
Encounters like this is why we dive the North Wall.
Three beautiful, strong, sleek reef sharks spent the entire dive with us, circling. On a couple of occasions I was able to swim hard and get even closer. What a stunning animal!
"Dancing Fairies"
Two Fairy Basslets on a black background.
"Hazy"
A Roughhead Blenny with a soft background. I really like how the wide aperture isolates these Blennys.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Arrow Portrait"
A Redlined Arrow Crab sitting on a healthy patch of coral.
"Trapeze"
A Wire Coral Shrimp perched on a branch of wire coral with a deep blue background.
"Fuzzy"
I wanted to emphasize the bright color eyes of this Roughhead Blenny so I used a wide open f/stop to achieve a narrow focus on his eyes.
"Sharpnose"
I love the facial markings of the Sharpnose Puffer. Finding a curious subject is key for this type of image, as these guys can be quite timid.
"Freeze Frame"
This large Hawksbill literally swam up to me and stopped mid water. He posed for 10-15 seconds less than two feet away from me and then turned and calmly started swimming in the other direction.
"Aerials"
The Turtle dive always leads to awesome imagery.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Basslet Smile"
A Portrait of a Fairy Basslet. A very color, but quick moving fish, so it becomes a challenge to get a subject to sit still long enough to focus. The vibrant color of the small Basslet makes it worth the wait.
"In the Trenches"
It is rare to find an Octopus during the day. Generally when we see a pile of empty Conch Shells, we assume there is a hiding eight legger some where close. This one in particular had curled himself up into a tight ball just inside
"Two Heads Are Better Than One!"- I found a coral head with a green moray face sticking out one side, and a super long tail winding out the other. Confident it wasn't a record-size eel, I waited a long while. My patience was rewarded with this image.
"Suspended"
A Jelly Fish suspended in water and light rays.
"Jelly Burst"
A Jelly Fish backlit using the sun.
