Church House Reef, Apo Island, Dumaguete, Negros Oriental

   Philippines  Philippine Sea
Can only be reached by Pump Boat from Dumaguete or nearby towns. We stayed at Atmosphere resort, where a 40 min trip led us to a very different underwater world, compared to the muck diving along the nearby coast. A lot of backpackers tend to stay on the island.

Underwater there is the most beautiful unspoilt coral and more turtles than you could possibly dream of.

Apo Island is a volcanic island covering 12 hectares in land area, 7 kilometers off the southeastern tip of Negros Island and 30 kilometers south of the Negros Oriental capital of Dumaguete City in the Philippines. The name "Apo" was derived from the a Filipino word which literally means, "Grandchild".
The marine habitat around the island is a marine reserve, protected by the National Integrated Protected Area Act (NIPA) and under the jurisdiction of the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB). It has become a popular dive site and snorkeling destination with tourists. There are two resorts on Apo Island, both of which have their own dive centers: Apo Island Beach Resort and Liberty's Lodge. There is a ranger station and a lighthouse.
The religious practice of Apo Island is generally Roman Catholic under the care of the Augustinian Recollect Friars.Formerly, it was administered by a Diocesan Priest but it was in 2008 that the Augustinian Recollects was requested to continue the mission. The patron saint of Apo Island is San Vicente Ferrer.
The island is under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Dauin, Negros Oriental, and is one of the municipality's 23 barangays. As of the 2010 census, the island has a population of 918.

Okiwi Bay, Marlborough Sounds, Nelson

   New Zealand  Tasman Sea
Okiwi Bay is a great place to dive for Scallops when the season is open. The bottom is sandy and has a variety of marine life such as Rays, Skates, Seahorse, Flounders, Octopus, Leather Jackets etc. In winter the sea can get down to 9 degrees and in summer up to 21 degrees.
Okiwi Bay offers access to a wide variety of diving in close proximety including Cray diving and Wrecks.
Depending on where you are diving the depth can be anywhere from 10m to 30, but on average 20m. The viz varies depending on what season it is and what type of weather has been, but an average would be 6m.
On the rare occassion Orca's have come into the bay!

   Portugal  Atlantic (European coastal)
Large group of rocks with silty bottom around 25m deep. This spot is known for concentrating several individuals of small-spotted catsharks (Scyliorhinus canicula), known in Portuguese as "pata-roxa", a species which is relatively rare along the Portuguese coast due to overfishing.

Fakarava South Pass, Tuamotus

   French Polynesia  Pacific
Spectacular site, both for snorkeling and diving. On the incoming current, the water clarity is exceptional. Sharks are everywhere, literally 100's, all around. We saw black tips, white tips, and grays, others saw lemons. Incredible variety of species of reef fish, very accessible to snorkelers. Lots of Napoleon wrasses, groupers, parrot fish, triggers, and pretty much every other specie found in French Polynesian waters. We dove and snorkeled for about 10 days, never got bored, saw new things every dive. Dives for best sharks were between 80 and 100', while the snorkeling was very shallow, most in only 15-20'.

MoonSom(Moon Island)

Korea, Republic of  East China Sea
I dived at Jeju Soquipo Dive Land Resort. I like this resort much and dive there for 3-4 weeks per year for last 5 years. Unfortunately guides do not speak English well, they prefer to use Korean. For brifing they can invite interpreter. Typical depth for diving: 6 meters - 60 meters. In summer period water temperature is more than 23 degree. At end of May it was 16-17 Celsium
