south male

   Maldives  Indian Ocean
we were just starting to chill out after the 2 morning dives offf of our liveaboard dive boat in the maldives, when all of a sudden we heard the shout "whalesharkey, whalesharkey". We grabbed our mask snorkel and fins and jumped in. There were several other boats int he area and it seemed everyone had converged on this whale shark. One of the things Cathy Vhurch had taughtme was not to swim linear with marine animals, but in arcs. I separated from the pack andparalleled the whale shark, watching his pectoral fins. When I saw him dip his left pec fin I know he would be coming in my direction. I froze in the water, just barely breathing and when he approached, I was rewarded with this shot.

Grote Hegge

   Netherlands
A wreck is laying here with the front into the shoreline. To the south there is a slope covered with stones. In the warmer months, specially during nightdives there is a lot of fish. Unfortenately the visibility gets very poor as the water is getting warmer. The best time to dive is spring when pike-perch is coming to spawn.

Double D, French Cay

Turks and Caicos islands  Caribbean Sea
Two big coral heads around the mooring that attract lots of marine life to the area. Often find common octupus out in the daytime. The wall is a south heading from the mooring line about 50 feet.

Not really sure

   Bahamas  Caribbean Sea
Unexso is the best dive outfit if you want to photograph sharks, the divemaster was really friendly and the team was very professional. Diving with them was a great experience and one I am sure I will do again.

Air Force Tower

United States  Atlantic (North American coastal)
This is a metal structure that was part of an Air Force navigational system. The top of the structre is at 20 feet (7 meters) with a depth of 100 feet (30 meters). The site can be subject to strong currents and visibility can range from near zero to 50 feet (15 meters). Fish life moves in and out of the area and may include cloud-obscuring shoals of menhaden and cigar minnows, groupers, snappers, spadefish, flounder, Goliath groupers, barracuda, turtles, blue angelfish, damselfish, and makeral. The top of the structure is home to at least three types of blennies - Molly Miller, seaweed, and tessalated. This area has even been visited by a whale shark.

South Red Sea

   Sudan  Red Sea
We dived from the liveaboard Royal Evolution which we booked through Tony Backhurst in London. It was easier to fly to London and catch the charter flight from there than it was to make it down to Marsa Alam and Port Hurghada on our own. As a bonus, we really enjoyed our stay in London taking in the sights (and the ale). Getting back to diving, the Royal Evolution is first class, except the food was a little disappointing. However, the diving in the southern Red Sea was fantastic and uncrowded--we only saw one other dive boat. The crew made it easy to clear through Customs in Port Sudan. We stayed on board while they handled everything for us. Our diving was mosty done from RIBS and we were divided into groups of 8 or less. The crew was very helpful if anyone needed a hand with the exit.
