message this message is important Dear Cynthia,
Thank for your latest submission to the UWP contest smile

You've requested a critique of your photo. How it works :
I will structure my critique into a few chapters and will list some suggested solutions to problem zones ( if there are any ). My critique will be like 2-3 posts in total, please wait with any answers until you see the note 'photo critic completed' - thanks smile

As we photo critics do this job as volunteers, a 'thank you' is always appreciated (no 'thanks' = no more critiques ).

Photo critiques here at UWP are meant to give a helping hand with an analytic review & to suggest solutions. The objective is to see you here as winner one day smile

And here we go ( critique/review starts with the next post ) !

First impression
Interesting behavioral shot .

Technical ( score from 1-6, best is 6 )
Exposure : 2, Colours: 4, Sharpness: 3, DOF ( depht of field ) : 4, Contrast : 3

Suggestions :
You could re-position the strobe over the subjects, giving a more even distribution of light.

Composition
Interesting animal behavior, but to make the image special you need to think more about composition i.e., try and wait until the subjects are in the right position, you could also back off a little creating a subject in environment shot adding a new dimension.

message  Subject
Interesting subject.

Suggestions :
Remember there is a difference between capturing an interesting subject and producing a great image. Try and think creative.

Epilogue
Best of luck and don't be afraid to experiment and try new things.

All the best,

Jim Garland - website - Award Winning Wreck Photography.
