message this message is importantHi Brad
Great photo. Im going to the Rowley Shoals in December, they are littered in gorgonia and I plan on finding one of these little suckers. Do you have any images of the type they live on? Any hints for finding them? Thanks.

Hi Tashie Apparently the type of Gorgonian that the Pygmys live on is one called Muricella. I dont really know how to describe it but I know what to look for when looking for the type of Fan. The different types of Pygmys( Bargabanti , Denise & ???) live on different coloured fans obvously colours that match. Once you find a fan that they live on they are still incredibly hard to spot. I have been photographing one then looked away and then havent been able to find them again. You can see why they were not discovered till a few years ago. Good luck , I would love to get to the Rowleys one day

message Where did you see them Brad?
All of the Bargibanti are very common all over Asia but the Denise is less so.
Hippocampus Pontoi, very common too with a wide distribution throughout Malasia & Indonesia into EPNG.
Another species has been discovered recently - A hairy one, which I hope to have pictures of in a months time... This sucker is only 6mm long!
Pntoi...
Hippocampus Pontoi 1

That's a 'Denise' too, same species of gorgonian, just a different colour.
