What splendid eyes these little gobies have! They hide in small crevices in rocks. They are shy but curious and it is easy to photograph them when they lean out to scrutinize the external environment. Havelock Is._April2024

Defying Gravity
"Electric Yellow" - Detail of a queen angelfish's scales and pectoral fin.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Christmas Double Exposure" - Teaching myself double exposures in camera. Whoo hoo! I shot consecutive photographs in multiple exposure mode.
"Psychedelic Hydroids" - A pair of hydroids photographed against a homemade background. No Photoshop. The background was held by my dive buddy and did not touch any sea life.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Icarus" - In early morning light, a hawksbill turtle is cast in silhouette as it cruises over Grand Cayman's deep wall.
Coral polyps reflection captured in a Nassau Grouper eye.
Until next time
Snorkeling on Sunset Reef on the East Side of Grand Cayman while ice and snow covered the ground back home in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Eye of French Angel Fish
shortlistedShortlisted!
“Ghost Ship” - The ex-USS Kittiwake appears as if from a ghostly fog. I also call this "Kittiwake In High-Key".
Smiling moray
Sunset at the Sandbar, the calm returns!
French Angel giving me the eye.....
This tiny shrimp was clinging tightly to the end of a purple-tipped anemone during a strong current.
shortlistedShortlisted!
"Black Beauty" - Because of the seahorse's dark color, I chose to silhouette it with backlight, and frame it within the brightly-colored sealife it was hiding in.
shortlistedShortlisted!
“Swarm”
Silversides look like a swarm of bees as they race into a swim-through.
shortlistedShortlisted!
Cruising
"Christmas Comparison" - I photographed these same Christmas tree worms as an example for single strobe position. Shot with identical settings but moving the strobe further back to create more shadows, and hence, texture!
Purple Crowned Sea Goddesses
Stingray Beauty
"Exiting The Maze" - A Caribbean reef shark threads through a coral maze and out into open sand.
Crystal Reflection
Wide Angle Snoot - Photograph #3: Third in a series of images where I'm experimenting with wide angle snoot technique. A lobster is illuminated by my snoot, while intentional light bleed from my strobe provides 3-D light on the edge a sponge.
Wide Angle Snoot - Photograph #2: Second in a series of images where I'm experimenting with wide angle snoot technique.
A green moray eel is isolated by strobe light as it hides in an overhang on the East side of Grand Cayman.
Morning Ray
shortlistedShortlisted!
A simple Graysby
Wide Angle Snoot - Photograph #1 - First in a series of images where I'm experimenting with wide angle snoot technique. Here, a cluster of sponges are illuminated and isolated by a single strobe as a school of fish race over the reef.
