Smaller subjects typically 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5cm) shot on macro settings or with macro equipment that are in MID WATER not touching anything (i.e. between 1:1 and 1:3)
I found this crab in very shallow water so a strobe wasn't necessary.

these little creatures are great if you catch the eye in the right angle they are blues during the evening and awesome greens during the night
came on this big fella 1 morning in Cozumel on a wall dive. he did not seem to mind me getting close but did warn me with a bump into my camera when I did get too close. look closely for the parasite on his lower jaw
I tried and tried to get close to these Queen Angels, but they just wouldn't let me. Finally I figured out how to.

These oogly critters are hard to coax out but a rewarding cold water subject.

Seahorse. Almost the entire night dive was spent looking for turtles when this little guy darted out between two fronds before latching on. Fuji s2 60mm/dual strobes-Photoshop-hue/saturation and converted to sepia.

Was diving inside Molokini Crater in Maui as a school of Racoon Butterflies including a few Scrawled Filefish passed by and circled me.
