Shots taken of a subject between 3 inches and 1 foot (7.5 to 30cm) in size (e.g. large fish or diver head) that dominates the frame - any background is incidental and occupies LESS THAN 50% of frame

I really used a shallow depth of field here to accentuate the teeth. It's amazing how they have a row of teeth in the roof of the mouth. Wouldn't want to be a fish stuck in there!
Found this cute wee fella in about 3 metres of water
This is a Kelp crab on a small sunken wreck in Hoodsport Wa.
Found the angler on a pylon only noticed him cause of his eye moving
The crab with its eggs
"Camoflauged anemone fish,"Amphiprion perideraion." I spent at least 5 minutes maintaining neutral buoyancy waiting for this fish to appear for a picture. The Heteractis magnifica anemone was a great safe camoflauge. Used Canon A650IS & no flash.
Portrait of a White Grunt (Haemulon plumierii) on Little Cayman. I was fortunate to see this one, since the French Grunt and Bluestriped Grunt are much more commonly seen.
Stonefish at Tulamben, Bali. Canon G9/Ikelite DS160 Strobe.
Smile for the camera - a face only a mother could love.
Sepia Officinalis detail.
Kelp Crab
About 10 minutes from our base there is a patch reef with a lot of these orange/pink anemones.I used my D70s,60mm micro lense with 2x nikonos 105 strobes. One strobe flooded and died but at least I got this shot.
Huge Seastar m1030SW Olympus
My Blue Heaven
a small mantis shrimp I think... tiny guy! Casio exilim
I found this brilliant red Sea Star about 3 meters deep in the Bohol Sea, Philippines. I used a Canon A650IS in macro mode during my first day of underwater photography.
Dahlia Anemone- There is Colour in U.K. Waters !!
Fuji Finepif F30 and housing
1/125 @ f25
I'd love to tell you I planned this shot but I got lucky. However you make your own luck and I sat in front of this ribbon eels hole for ages just shooting as it came into focus. Bit of vignette added in Lightroom and a boost to levels.
shortlistedShortlisted!
You looking at me???
1/125 @ f9.
This is one of the first photographs where I planned the shot before taking it. I side lit the rhinopias with TTL on one strobe and set the other strobe to 1/8 and put it above the subject.
yellowspotted snake eel,haloa point,maui
Shrimp
Toadfish, up close and personal. Pic taken yesterday while diving Blue Heron Bridge again. Taken with Olympus Stylus 700 with housing - no strobe, no special lenses, no color adjusting - nothing special
This is a pygmy sea horse on fan coral. This species was not discovered until relatively recently because of its small size and near perfect camoflage.
Shrimp & Goby on a Whip Coral. Taken at Cod Hole ot the Ribbon Reef #10 on the Great Barrier Reef.
Nikon D200, 60mm Nikkor, 125 Ikelite
