Bass City

   Mozambique  Indian Ocean
This reef is famous for its friendly Potato Bass nicknamed 'Bert' there are several other large Bass around the reef but Bert is the only one that will swim with you. On the way down the mid waters are filled with game fish. The five rocks that make up this reef are covered with soft corals where Lionfish (often you will see over a dozen at once) and Sweepers lurk. In the overhangs you will discover Shrimp cleaning stations and Octopus, among the sand you will see Carpet Eels and various members of the Manta family.

Bert is an amazingly friendly (and large) Bass

Berry Head

   United Kingdom
Berry Head
(5-40m) The headland marking the end of Lyme Bay. 60m cliffs leading down to the water. Here there are huge boulders and ridges leading down to mud / silt slopes to a dark 40m+, although the best life is in less than 20m.
This site is a mixture of high to low energy giving a great variety of life. This starts as soon as you hit the water with garfish, mackerel & pollack in mid water, on the rocks various anemones, crabs, lobsters, flat fish, wrasse, congers etc. This dive can even begin with a great swim through cave

You can dive this wreck from the dive boat Sunfish. You can contact Mike of Sunfish Charters on 07968-262421 or email click here to email  or visit website Never been on Sunfish before, then check out our Testimonial page on website

Bretagene

   United Kingdom
The Britagne
(28m) 232ft long, sunk in 1918 by being rammed by another ship (you can see the gouge in the starboard side). Sits upright on a shell bottom. A little bit of superstructure, but generally whole. Still has it's prop & rudder, with a spare prop on the stern deck.
Ideal for all levels of diver, whether it's a non-stop 20min dive or a full 60min dive (in 60mins you will see ALL of it). For advanced divers there are some nice penetrations. Lots of fish (and snagged fishing line), HUGE crabs live near the bow.

Bloody Bay Wall - Little Cayman

   Cayman islands  Caribbean Sea
My wife and I have been diving on Little Cayman since 1989. We've dived throughout the Caribbean and also two trips to the Bligh Water in Fiji. I can't imagine a more dramatic wall dive anywhere, at least in the western hemisphere. Bloody Bay Wall crests in water less that 20 feet deep, then goes vertical to 2000 feet deep. It's like floating along the walls of the Grand Canyon, with deep ravines and undercuts, and marine life of all forms just teeming on the wall and on the colorful coral gardens on top. There are enough swim-throughs, arches, and other formations to keep anyone in awe. As great as the wall is for wide-angle photography, I've taken some great macro shots here too.

A site that has to be seen to believe!

Bubble Beach

   East Timor  Banda Sea
Location: 29.3km West of Dili. Find the Indonesian military graveyard for Indonesian soldiers killed during the 24-year occupation and park near the piles of white rocks.

Entry: The entry is straight out from the NW corner of the enclosure. Gradual entry on small rocks and sandy bottom.

UW profile: To the West there are coral gardens with brain coral formations. To the East, the area is marked by a predominantly sandy bottom with large coral formations. The sandy bottom is covered with small holes where hot water and gas caused by geothermal activity are escaping.

Points of interest: A large coral formation to the NE of the entry point holds several Moray eels. The sandy area is often frequented by blue spotted rays.

Topside There are no trees near the entry point but 100 - 120 meters to the West there is a large tree with good cover.

Black Rock, Dili

   East Timor  Banda Sea
Location: 36.3KM East of Dili. The turn off for Black Rock is right before the small ridge which overlooks Dollar Beach. Turn off the road and follow the tracks between the trees to the water.

Entry: Black Rock is a beautiful dive, but can be very challenging if the currents pick up during the dive. Consult the tide charts before you go. (See Tide Charts at left). Avoid times when the tide is changing especially during neap tides. Avoid diving here if the water looks as if it is "boiling". There can be three different currents acting on this site at the same time, Northward, Eastward and Westward. The most popular entry is on the East side of the rock in order to circle around the rock to the West and then back to the beach. The first part of the entry is marked with a flat shelf of broken coral. At low tide this can make for a bit of a walk before it starts to get deep.

UW profile: There is a wall to the East of the rock with depths up to 20+ meters. There is a gradual decrease in depth going Eastward towards the rock. Once around the rock and on the return to the beach, there is a nice coral garden ranging from 3-5 meters depth.

Points of interest: Two large cracks in the wall on the East side of Black rock hold many fish in small caves in the sides of the wall. Also seen: lobster, nudibranchs (various).

Topside: There are some shade trees near the water which can make for a nice picnic spot.

Behau Forest (Bob's Rock)

   East Timor  Banda Sea
Location: 44.5KM East of Dili. Coming down over the ridge after Behau Village the turnoff is marked by a rock with "HB" painted on it. Follow the tracks 15-20m to the water's edge.

Entry: The beach is covered with medium sized smooth rocks. The entry is gradual starting with rocks, going to sand and then coral gardens to the West.

UW profile: To the West, a gradual slope is covered by low lying coral leading to larger coral formations, small walls and coral covered ledges.
Points of interest On entry and after the rocks there is a group of several dozen garden eels that live in the sand at about 5-6 meters depth. One of the ledges further West, is covered with two giant clams approximately 50cm in length, at 9-10 meters depth. Also seen: Napoleon wrasse, lobster, banded sea snake.

Topside: The area at the water's edge is nicely covered with trees and great for picnics.

Behau Village

   East Timor  Banda Sea
Location: 42.0KM East of Dili. Enter the area enclosed by a wall. The entrance is rocky and care should be taken when entering with a vehicle with low clrarance.

Entry : One can enter the water at the small gazebo-like structure in the enclosure. The first few meters is rocky leading to sandy bottom and then on to coral structures.

UW profile : To the West the coral is more of an expansive coral cover with small outcroppings whereas to the East, the area is characterized by larger coral outcroppings in a more sandy area.

Points of interest: Alternating small walls and sandy slopes. Resident Napoleon wrasse to the East of the entry.

Topside : Nice shady area with big trees and gazebo. The area is often frequented by people from the local village who are interested in watching divers.

Bat Islands

   Costa Rica  Pacific
Murcielago or Bat islands

This dive spot is for experienced divers and really worth taking the 1 hour and 15 minutes boat trip.
A free decent and you are in a wonderfull place. In the season May - November this place is famous for it's bull sharks.
My firts trip to these islands was awesome.....16 bull sharks!
The biggest Murene eels and big schools of rays. It's just a magnificent place to dive!
Your saftey stop has to be made in mid water without reference, this can be tricky because sometimes the currents are strong; therefore the experienced dive certification.
If you plan to go, be prepared, bring a saftey tube for the boat to spot you.
Bat islands is a national park and an entrance fee of $6 needs to be paid, make sure you take a diveshop that has legal permission because alot of divecenteres will take you on this trip and then you end up returning without any dives because the coast guard interfered with the plans.
One of the dive shops with a permit is Rich Coast Diving in playa del Coco.

Baleal

   Portugal  Atlantic
Great diversity of macro subjects, especially nudibranchs and other opistobranchs (a.k.a. sea slugs).
Large wreck in poor conditions provides good subjects for wide angle. Due to the very poor visibility (with exceptions) it's very rare to be able to use wide angle lenses with effective results.
Only a couple of dive centers in the vicinity 3km away.
