A cut-in shot is very similar to a cutaway but is usually a brief CU or ECU and, unlike the cutaway, is of the main subject. For instance a diver looking at his computer in MS could be followed by an ECU of the computer itself.

The great thing about cutaways and cut-ins is that you don't need to shoot them at the same time as the main action. You can build up a library of such shots and edit them in later (provided they are recognisable as the divers in the main action - for the sake of continuity).

Here is a typical sequence. You can use it as a template to get you going and modify it to fit your needs.
