Forgetting to take the lens cap off is the ultimate avoidable mistake and is perhaps, the oldest cliché in the book. Don't think it will never happen to you either; it can, and has, to all the pro's at least once even if they won't admit it! The editor of a well known diving magazine once confided in me that he had done just that, realizing his mistake only when he had got back into the boat after an hour in the water with a model, co-operative fish, great vis, the works!
