The field of measurement used by the metering system need not correspond to the angle of view of the lens. Alternatives available on SLR cameras include spot reading, where only a small area (e.g. 10%) is taken, and center weighted, where the reading is biased to the base of the picture and segmented readings where the frame is divided into areas.
