Histogram

A graph of brightness along the horizontal axis (black to white) and the number of pixelPicture element: a dot or a small area of a picture that carries the three attributes: hue color saturation and brightness. Any picture can be made up of an array of dots with these attributes viewed from a distance that the dots are not visible.s at each brightness level on the vertical axis.

You can use a histogram at time of shooting as an indicator of optimum exposureRecording light onto photo sensitive devices and materials. Experienced picture editors learn to look at the image histogram and assess the 'health' of the image in terms of what it will look like when printed.
