trade secrets! Things the pro's don't want you to know! As usual, it is preferably to capture an image with full tonality at time of shooting, remember the old adage – Garbage In - Garbage Out (GIGO).

However, you can salvage otherwise viable images by adjusting tonality later. In Adobe Camera RAW you start with the basic pane, in Photoshop you use the Image next command to follow Adjustment next command to follow Levels.

Problems to avoid When making adjustment to tonal quality you should always reference a histogramA graph of brightness along the horizontal axis (black to white) and the number of pixels at each brightness level on the vertical axis. to give you objective feedback, rather than just relying on your own eyes.
