One of the fundamental skills for successful Photoshop editing is being able to make a quality selection of an element in your image. Photoshop has several tools to do this and their importance in the editing process is reflected by their position at the top of the toolbox.

Assessing which is the most appropriate selection tool to use for a particular instance is one of the skills that must be learned.
