Capturing Automatically

Perform the following procedure to capture video from the DV device:

  1. In [IMPORT-Auto] mode, clicking [CAPTURE ALL] or [CAPTURE] will open the [Save as a file] dialog box.

    Hint

Clicking [CAPTURE ALL] will capture all the video sequences on the IN/OUT list in the order that they are laid out in the list.
Clicking [CAPTURE] captures only the video sequences selected from the IN/OUT list.
  2. Specify the [Save in:] setting.
Click [Refer to...] to change the location where the file will be saved.
  3. Specify the way you want to save the file.
There are two ways to save captured video.
    • There are two ways to save captured video.
Clicking [Save to individual files] will save each video sequence on the IN/OUT list as separate files. Each individual file is saved according to the settings made in the [Capture Setting] dialog box. If any of the individual files exceeds the specified file size or duration, it gets split up into multiple files.
    • [Save to one file]
Clicking [Save to one file] will save all the video sequences on the IN/OUT list as one file. The file is saved according to the settings made in the [Capture Setting] dialog box. If the file exceeds the specified file size or duration, it gets split up into multiple files.

    Hint

Clicking [Detail...] will open the [Capture Setting] dialog box where you can confirm the file size or duration setting.

    Note

A change in the sound mode while capturing a video sequence from a DV device causes the video sequence, from the point where the sound mode changed, to be saved in another file.
  4. Specify the file name.
You can choose from the following two ways to name the file or files that are generated when [Save to individual files] is selected:
    • "Specified name" + 3-digit serial number + Divided number
    • "Specified name" + 7-digit time code + Divided number
Specify the file name and choose either selection:
Choosing [3-digit serial number] will append a 3-digit serial number (001-999) to the filename.
Choosing [7-digit time code] will append the time code of the IN point to the filename.

    Note

    • When capturing video sequences specified on the IN/OUT list, you can append a 3-digit serial number to the file name by choosing [3-digit serial number]. However, this number will not always coincide with the number on the IN/OUT list.
    • When you have set [7-digit time code] if more than one item on the list has the same IN point, the video sequence that is being saved will overwrite the video sequence on the list because the file names are the same.
  5. Click [Save].
DVgate Motion starts capturing video sequences from the DV device according to the IN/OUT list and saves them as video files on the hard disk. They are divided and saved according to the time setting or the size setting. In step 4 if [3-digit serial number] has been chosen the file name in the [Save as a file] dialog box will have the file name + [001-] + a serial 4 digit number attached. The serial number starts at [-0001] and increases. (eg. test001-0001.avi, test001-0002.avi, test001-0003.avi).

    Note

    • When capturing video sequences, do not log off or shut down Windows.
    • Do not allow the screen saver to start.
    • Do not operate other software or move or operate any windows while capturing video sequences.
    • The video sequences may not be correctly captured from the start of the tape when capturing them while DVgate Motion controls the video device.
    • Do not change the digital video camera recorder to the camera mode or turn off the power while capturing video sequences.
