Viewing the Video Sequences While Capturing Them by Direct Manipulation of the DV Device

You can save video sequences that are captured manually from a DV device.

In this mode, video can be captured from media other than DV tapes* and from a DV camera that is recording.

*With the use of an optional media converter (DVMC-DA1 or DVMC-MS1) connected to the i.LINK connector of your computer, you can capture video from VHS tapes and from a playback of analog tapes on Digital 8 format devices. However, digital output from D-VHS and CS tuners cannot be captured.

Follow the steps below to capture clips:

  1. Click [CAPTURE] while in the [IMPORT-Manual] mode.
When you click [CAPTURE] in the Main Window, the [Save as a file] dialog box appears.
  2. Specify the [Save in:] setting.
Click [Refer to...] to change the location where the file will be saved.
  3. Specify the file name.
You can only choose [Save to individual files] and [3-digit serial number] when in the [IMPORT-Manual] mode.
Specify the file name and a 3-digit serial number (001-999) will be appended to the name. If the file exceeds the specified file size or duration, it gets split up into multiple files with consecutive divided numbers.

    Hint

Clicking [Detail...] opens the [Capture Setting] dialog box where you can confirm or change the file size or duration setting.
  4. After configuring the various settings, click the [Save] button. The [Waiting...] dialog box appears.
The following buttons are displayed within the dialog box:
    [Capture] Starts capturing
    [Exit] Closes the dialog box
  5. Click the [Capture] button.
The [Now Capturing...] dialog box appears.

The following buttons are displayed within the dialog box:
[Pause] Temporarily suspends or pauses capture
    [Stop] Stops capturing
  6. Click the [Pause] button.
The [Capture Pausing...] dialog box is displayed. If you now click the [Capture] button and start capturing a new section of the source tape, it gets attached to the same file as the one generated before the pause. However, if you click the [Stop] button and start capturing again, the newly captured section gets saved as a new file.

The following buttons are displayed within the dialog box:
    [Capture] Starts capturing
    [Stop] Stops capturing
  7. Click the [Capture] button.
The [Now Capturing...] dialog box is displayed.

The following buttons are displayed within the dialog box:
    [Pause] Pauses capturing
    [Stop] Stops capturing

  8. Click the [Stop] button.
The [Waiting...] dialog box is displayed.

The following buttons are displayed within the dialog box:
    [Capture] Starts capturing
    [Exit] Closes the dialog box

Note

When capturing video sequences manually, it is not possible to re-capture lost frames
